Quebec’s Bécancour Cogeneration Plant is designed to produce two forms of energy from a single source — electricity and steam. The plant uses natural gas and has a production capacity of 550 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This process of cogeneration helps contribute to lower emissions.
The Bécancour Cogeneration Plant is governed according to regulations outlined by the Régie de l’énergie du Québec.
